When it comes to love songs, Elvis is #1 on my list and “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You” has to be the ultimate love song. Have fun watching this classic video of the first, but NOT the last, man to rock out wearing a tux with tails! Anyone notice what Elvis does NOT do in this performance?

Post your comments here about Elvis and the love songs you recall in your life!

    One of my favorite love songs is Symphony for Susan originally done by The Arbors but my preferred version being done by The Lettermen. The vocals are soooo lush and beautiful! My all-time favorite love song is The Way You Look Tonite originally done by Fred Astaire, who sang it to Ginger Rogers…again, my favorite version is by Jim Tony & Bob, a.k.a The Lettermen (and not because Tony Butala is from my hometown, either! Sharon PA loves you, Tony!!!)

    Yes, Elvis sang those love songs, but here’s one of my favorite renditions of a very old ballad that tells of an exchange between two lovers.

    The background about Scarborough Fair and the history of this song is quite interesting. I mentioned more about Andy Williams and this video in my December 16, 2010 interview at WUSB 90.1 FM.

    How about HERE, THERE, and EVERYWHERE. I think (I don’t remember back that far!) that was my first dance as “husband and wife” at my wedding.

    Well now, this morning I woke up with THIS song ringing in my head:
    When no one else can understand me. When everything I do is wrong. You give me hope and consolation. You give me strength to carry on. I guess I’ll never know the reason why. you love me as you do. That’s the wonder, the wonder of you.

    When you think about it, Elvis is the king of many a love song.

    @ShelleyCT Your grandmother knows good music! Connie Francis is one of the greatest female voices ever – absolutely perfect pitch! Agreed, the song is one with powerful emotion.

    @V-Elf
    That is Miss Connie Frances. Not a bit of Italian heritage in me, but one of my grandmothers loved her. Love all the renditions we mentioned. Guess it’s just a powerful song for me.

    @ShelleyCT And then there’s the Dusty Springfield version of “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me”

    Or if you’re Italian, how about Io Che Non Vivo Senza Te. Anyone know this voice?

    OK, forgot to go for the “what does Elvis NOT do in this performance?” question.

    Well, either he uses the guitar on the next song on this show, or his pic is lost in transit with the clothes he was GOING to wear. He looks good in the tux tho’.

    Funny, last night “I Want You, I Need You, I Love” played on the radio as I was falling asleep. I woke up to pay attention to it as I had just read your comment here.

    I think the intensity of the song “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” done by Elvis is what makes this song stand out for me. The words exhibit a relationship that may be more one-sided, but the way he sings it doesn’t make it seem so. It always stops me in my tracks when I hear it and enjoy the sincerity he exudes.
