One of my favorite holiday songs is Holly Jolly Christmas. When I was a kid I used to walk around singing this song year round!

I bet you’ll be singing

“Oh by golly have a holly jolly Christmas this year!”

if you click on the picture and watch the video!

    This song is the most memorable for me in that movie, Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer. I also like “Deck the Halls”. When the Oriental guys in the movie, “A Christmas Story” sang Deck the Halls for Peter, Ralphie and mom and dad, well, I bust out laughing!!! And, then they chopped the duck head off!!! Too funny! Great Christmas mood.

    Happy New Year! As we embrace New Year’s Day – with hopes for not only a better new year but a better decade, may I offer ( is this the Anthony Newley love-fest mutual admiration society??) some more poetic words of wisdom from Mr Newley and his Sweet Beginning

    This, my friend, is only the beginning -
    Such a sweet beginning, too.
    Now, at last, I see a chance of winning -
    See a chance of breaking through.

    Who can say? Today may live in hist’ry
    As long as there’s a hist’ry book.
    Yesterday the world was still a myst’ry;
    Today it has a new and diff’rent look.

    So, my friend, let’s send the old world spinning;
    Change is what I recommend.
    Come on, my friend, let’s see this sweet beginning
    Through to the bitter end!
    Through to the bitter end!

    With the New Year almost here I’d like to share a song by Anthony Newley & Leslie Bricusse that expresses my wishes for all in the New Year – If I Ruled the World

    If I ruled the world
    Every day would be the first day of spring
    Every heart would have a new song to sing
    And we’d sing of the joy every morning would bring

    Click on the link to listen to Tony Bennett sing more of my New Years wishes … if I ruled the world!

    @ShelleyCT What you say is so true, Shelley. Christmas songs are good throughout the year and Christmas certainly isn’t the only holiday. The songs Vance shares in nursing homes during this season and today as we post here on Christmas Eve are certainly not limited to Christmas!

    We hope others will meet your challenge and mention other holiday songs through the year. Meanwhile, here’s something fun from Adam Sandler The Chanukah Song

    You know, Christmas is big when it comes to songs, but I want to challenge us to continue this thread including other holidays…..and continue adding more Christmas. I have been known to throw in a Christmas movie or put on Christmas songs in the heat of July, if it suits my fancy, or is needed to change the mood. I believe we are showing here just how much music has influenced each of us in positive, forceful ways. And it has already been stated that some Christmas songs have great optimistic messages for the whole year through. (ie: Put One Foot In Front Of The Other) Right Vance and Elves?

    Having just safely made it in from work during our premier snowstorm of the year, I will now sing, “Let it Snow, Let it Snow”; which is a song celebrating the holiday of Snowclusion. That which makes us slow down, rest and enjoy our homes.

    And then there’s this version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

    Not to mention other classics on the 1978 Carpenters Christmas Portrait album

    NOTHING can touch (well, maybe Bing Crosby crooning WHite Christmas) Judy Garland singing Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas!

    wondering if you remember a moving August rendition of Mr. Winter’s, “Put one foot in front of the other”. Ahhhhh yes…. He had me at the Mr. Winter dance. Miss you, Vance. Not quite 100% since my surgery but working hard.

    My favorite Christmas movie is “Love Actually”. The song “Christmas is All Around” is hilariously sung by Bill Nighy’s character, who alters the real Trogg’s song, “Love is All Around”. There are many great relationships in this film, but probably my favorite is the one between Bill Nighy, as Billy Mac, and his manager, Joe. Love is very much all around in this cool flick.

    @ShelleyCT Did someone say Christmas songs? Here you go …

    White Christmas – Bing Crosby

    Merry Christmas Darling – Karen Carpenter

    I’ll Make Time for Christmas – Vance

    @V-Elf
    Awwwww, sorry about that V-Elf. I’m sure you would have been ALMOST as good as our young dental wanna be. My list of Holiday songs I do not like is the much shorter list on this topic. Hard to pick a fave, but I think I will go with a tie between listening to Bing Crosby croon White Christmas and Karen Carpenter’s clear crystal vocals on Merry Christmas Darling. P.S. I love the lyrics on I’ll Make Time For Christmas. I DID NOT have to add that!

    I didn’t get the elf part in Holly Jolly Christmas, but I can still sing one of my favorite Christmas songs “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” until Santa delivers the gifts on my wish list!
