Well, Vance, I cannot leave a comment about Anthony Newley unanswered. The man was pure genius – had a way with sad songs that resonate and just pierce your heart. Why, I’d put up Who Can I Turn To? , The Joker or My First Love Song against What kind of Fool Am I and would be hard pressed to say which was the most plaintive and haunting. And then he could pump you up with the most vibrant and uplifting – Beautiful Land and On A Wonderful Day like Today. I wonder how many people know that Feeling Good, popularized by Michael Buble was written by Anthony Newley!!
It’s funny how God speaks to us through the music in our lives….. At a low point nearly 20 years ago, still reeling from the greatest loss of my life, my father’s death, I cried out for help in prayer. Moments later, I turned on the radio to hear this hauntingly beautiful and comforting song by Janny Grein, Stronger Than Before. I remind myself of these lyrics (chorus) every time I doubt my ability to get to the other side of one of those big dips we all go (grow) through.
