@ShelleyCT Thanks Shelly, you’re quicker than my elves! So guess I’ll just add a comment to yours directing fans to my new post about Music and Cars
I just LOVE the Munster tribute on Along the Way. V-elves, you have set it up beautifully, and Vance, the oratory and The Mosquitos playing the theme song just made me feel Glad All Over.
@Vance

Hi Vance, I recognized him, It’s Butch Patrick. He is most famous for playing Eddie Wolfgang Munster on “The Munsters”.
Nice picture of both of you.

Vance – Is that you in the black and white photo; front, center and SHORT hair?? OMG. The Teen Idols were awesome at the Cannery!!! I posted a few pics on Facebook. Hope you see them. See ya in Las Vegas when HH is here again.. Thanks for the Fun!!
@Matthew Newman
Glad you enjoyed the Hermits show. You won’t find the device I use in “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter” at Guitar Center … would you believe Home Depot? When I joined the Hermits in 2001 I made it with a piece of foam from a paint edger.
Here’s a video clip with reference and a close up of my “special tool” and a few lines from the song during a 2004 TV interview: “Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter” clip.
A banjo was used on the original recording, but during live performances Keith Hopwood used a Gretsch Country Gentleman which could mute strings as needed to duplicate the banjo sound. At one point his guitar was stolen and he used a feather duster under the strings of the substitute guitar.
Apparently a feather duster wasn’t always available. Check out :04-:07 in this YouTube video of the Hermits on a TV show in 1965 … Keith is using a towel of some kind under the strings.
There’s always YouTube, if you want the full original song, original Herman’s Hermits performing it, or the current LIVE version.
Vance, I saw you with Peter a few years back at Delco Park in Dayton, Ohio. It was a great show! I’m a semi-pro guitarist, myself and I appreciate your style. Just one question: What was it that you used for a mute on your guitar for “Mrs. Brown”?
Silly? Who, moi? Just wandered in and saw that you added the photo of me singing with you in Kings Park, NY. I won’t forget my drive from Queens post a snowstorm and driving on the icy Sunken Meadow Parkway. OK, maybe I am a bit silly. But it was all worth it. I had lots of fun singing with you and dancing in response to your infectious energy. I won’t forget the “high” I got. And both of us were wearing paisley! LOL what was on our minds when we woke up that morning?
Thanks Vance, for an incredible night.
Vance, the memories are numerous and they are ALL GOOD!! Our residents always looked forward to seeing you but I think Matty and I were always more excited than they were!! I truly wish I was able to see you the night you were in Grantville, PA. I hope our paths will cross again in the near future. Happy, Healthy Holiday to you and yours!! Miss you!!
